Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar yoga, a form of Hatha yoga, emphasizes anatomical alignment and precision through poses that strengthen and cultivate awareness and concentration.  Our multi-level class uses a variety of yoga props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, to help individuals learn the poses in a safe and enjoyable manner.  Kate Marshall-Chase, a certified yoga teacher and licenced massage therapist, has practiced yoga for over 30 years.  Brucie Serene MD, a certified Iyengar yoga instructor, combines her medical knowledge with more than 20 years of yoga experience.  Great for individuals practicing at beginner and intermediate levels.

Iyengar Yoga – beyond Basics

This yoga class for continuing Iyengar yoga students will focus on developing a practice of the foundational postures – standing, seated, forward and backward extending, twisting and inversions .  Using props such as blocks, straps and blankets will make it possible for all students to access the poses in a safe and balanced manner.  The practice of the poses will enhance  strength, stamina, balance and flexibility , leading to a healthier body, mind and spirit.  The class will be suitable for students who have some experience with yoga and want to deepen their practice .  It will be taught by Peg Spear – who has studied Iyengar yoga for 20 years, been teaching  for 5 years and whose yoga practice, study and teaching is informed in part by her lifelong work as a primary care physician.   Peg is certified by the Iyengar Association of the US (IYNAUS).

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga is a slower paced class designed specifically for seniors of all fitness levels. This class is focused on increasing flexibility and reducing stress in a friendly environment.
