    “Backpack Program”

What some people see as a backpack, children see as a means of food for the weekend. No child should ever be hungry.

We serve seven school districts with the Backpack Program: Philipsburg-Osceola, Moshannon Valley, West Branch, Bald Eagle, Bellefonte, Penns Valley, and State College.

For more information on volunteering and donating to the Backpack Program contact Mel Curtis at mailto:[email protected]or call 814-342-0889.

  • STEWARDS OF CHILDREN

Stewards of Children is a prevention training program that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for organizations that serve youth and for individuals concerned about the safety of children. It is the only nationally distributed, evidence based program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child protective behaviors. Stewards of Children is a two hour workshop to emphasize child safety as an adult’s responsibility.

  • MAKING KIDS A PRIORITY

The YMCA of Centre County has taken a stand against childhood hunger. In 2004, we began a Free Summer Lunch Program which provides meals to school age children throughout the summer. To date, we have served over 150,000 free meals. In 2014 we started a Backpack Weekend Food Program in the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District which provides students food to eat over the weekend when they are not in school. By the end of the school year, over 140 backpacks were being sent home each weekend.
