Aqualions Swim Team
The Aqualions are a year round competitive age group swim team, affiliated with YMCA and USA Swimming. All SCAY coaches are professionally certified and trained, and have competitive experience. Stroke technique is first and foremost in SCAY’s approach, along with instruction on starts, turns, and, most importantly, being a member of a team. SCAY’s motto is “Work Hard, Work Smart, Have Fun.”
To join, minimum requirements are:
Age 8 & Younger: 25 yards each of freestyle with side breathing and backstroke
Age 9 & Older: proficiency in all four competitive strokes
The SCAY Aqualions swim team is a part of the YMCA of Centre County and is affiliated with YMCA National . The Aqualions train and compete at the State College facility. The YMCA of Centre County fully accepts diversity and promotes community development and cooperation in all of its programs.
SCAY is also USA Swimming affiliated. Participation in USA Swimming is optional and requires additional registration fees. USA Swimming is a national organization that promotes swimming by creating opportunities for swimmers and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport.
The SCAY Aqualions are a participant in the Keystone YMCA Swim League which provides opportunities for competitive meets against other league teams. Dual meets are typically held on Saturday mornings throughout the Fall/Winter season. A league championship is held in late February with all teams competing. Those who qualify advance to the PA West District competition and have further opportunities to advance to YMCA States and ultimately, YMCA Nationals.
Minimum requirements to join the Aqualions are 25 yards each of freestyle with side breathing and backstroke. New swimmers are placed in practice groups according to age and ability. All SCAY Aqualion swimmers must be a member of the YMCA to participate.
The SCAY Aqualions swimming program is broken into three “seasons”:

Fall/Winter

|
Spring
|
Late April – Early June
|
|
Summer
|
Early June – Early August
|
Swimming levels:
Children are assigned practice groups based upon their skill level and age. Each fall, a clinic is held to assess the skill levels of swimmers new to SCAY for the Fall/Winter season. Assignments for mid-season, spring & summer seasons will be based on the coaches’ evaluation of skill at that time. New swimmers are welcome at any time throughout the season(s). The groups and “typical” age levels are:
