Meet Preston Putillion, a freshman at Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School. Preston plays football and basketball for the Mounties, but when he’s not on the field or the court, he spends time helping his neighbors with yard work. He’s often compensated for time spent doing these small chores, and after saving for a few months, the money started to add up. One day, while walking through Walmart with his dad, Jeffrey, he told him he would like to use that money to help other people. He walked through the aisles and came upon some backpacks. Knowing about the Y’s backpack program, he told his dad that the Y could use these to give kids food or to put Christmas toys in. What Preston did next was unexpected. He used the money he had saved to purchase 75 backpacks and donated them to the YMCA to give to children. Thanks to Preston, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of many kids in Centre County. But his generosity doesn’t stop there. He and his dad are also participating in our Polar Bear Plunge on December 7 to raise money for the many programs and services our organization has to offer. Thank you, Preston. We sincerely appreciate your kindness!
